Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based psychotherapy treatment that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences and traumatic memories. EMDR can help you process and recover from past experiences that are affecting your mental health and wellbeing.
EMDR is now widely recognised by organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the NHS as an effective treatment for PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and unresolved grief, but it can also help with performance anxiety, low self-esteem, and other challenges rooted in past experiences. It is based on the idea that the brain has a natural ability to heal from psychological wounds, much like the body recovers from physical injuries, but sometimes, trauma can disrupt this process. EMDR helps “unblock” the brain’s healing mechanisms, allowing clients to move forward with greater resilience and emotional freedom.
During EMDR therapy, the therapist guides the client to recall distressing memories while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation (typically through side-to-side eye movements, taps, or sounds). This process helps the brain reprocess the memory, reducing its emotional intensity and allowing it to integrate into the mind in a more adaptive way. The goal is not to erase the memory but to take the “sting” out of it, so it no longer triggers overwhelming emotions or physical reactions. Many clients notice significant relief in just a few sessions, even with long-standing issues.
As an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist trained in EMDR, I provide a safe, structured approach to help clients process distressing memories and reclaim their sense of well-being. Whether you’re struggling with a single traumatic event or years of accumulated stress, EMDR can offer a path to healing that is often faster and less overwhelming than traditional therapies. If you’d like to explore whether EMDR is right for you, feel free to book a consultation.

I found Maja through my colleague – an actress who told me she was able to work through both some trauma issues (especially from auditions and issues around working with agents, which I felt I needed to address too); she also found Maja’s approach useful to building her characters and strengthening her performance. So I took a plunge and I wasn’t disappointed. Maja is a wonderful and a very knowledgeable psychologist who really knows how to work with creative (often highly sensitive) people. I feel she also understands the pressures and difficulties we are faced within the performance industry.
She uses brain-body approaches, and her way of working is aligned with polyvagal theory, EMDR and Brainspotting, somatic experiencing as well as IFS. She helped me recognise the connection between stress and tension and the effect on the nervous system, and the consequences of imbalance and dysregulation on my performance as a singer and performer. She helped me work through my blocks and really focus on building new pathways in my brain.
She knows so much about trauma and how to move beyond it! Her approach is so much focused on growth, building resources and re-igniting motivation, creativity and sheer joy. I feel like I not only came back to myself, but I have become a better version of myself. I now use the space to build my performance by using expansion Brainspotting and it is so exciting! I can’t thank Maja enough.
