Types of assessments and consultations I offer:

This type of assessment is carried out prior to commencing therapy and is an integral part of any psychological treatment.

This initial appointment is required even if you have already accessed any form of talking therapy in the past. The outcome of this assessment session will inform our formulation (a map of problems and hypotheses of where they stem from and what maintains them) and plans for treatment.

Psychological assessment is an opportunity to:

  • understand yourself and your difficulties better,
  • to develop an initial theory of your experiences (sometimes called a ‘formulation’), through drawing on psychological theories and research,
  • explore whether psychological ideas and concepts feel accurate and useful for you,
  • assess your options for further professional support around any identified issues, including the NHS, 3rd sector and private practice routes,
  • empower you to make informed choices.

An initial assessment is also an important opportunity to explore whether you feel you could work with a particular therapist, understand what type of psychotherapist you might need, and to support you with appropriate referral pathways in order to gain access to services. If required, I can refer you to the service of your choice and will advocate for the right option for you.

As a responsible clinician, I practice within the limits of my competence. If I feel that the nature of your difficulties lies outside of my expertise, or that you would benefit from a multi-disciplinary approach then I have a duty of care to direct you to an appropriate service within (or outside) the NHS.

It is often conducted for specific reasons such as e.g.

  • to inform an employer about any specific adjustments or recommendations for an employee,
  • to inform a school/ college/ university of specific accommodations required in the classroom or for exams)
  • or for the purpose of referral to a specific service.

This is recommended if you wish to have a comprehensive psychological formulation and assessment report completed so that you can get referred to an appropriate service, request reasonable adjustments at work, request specific accommodations.

These types of assessments are often (but not always) conducted after a specific request for such an assessment was made. They usually require a detailed report to be compiled and submitted to the relevant referring body.

This assessment will usually require the completion of

  1. written clinical measures, and
  2. semi-structured verbal interview.
It means that in addition to the verbal assessment, you will be asked to complete a number of clinical measures that are deemed relevant to your presenting difficulties.

This type of assessment is more comprehensive, may be longer and the fee will include the time spent on writing up the report.

I tend to predominantly focus on adult mental health. I have a particular interest in anxiety disorders, especially PTSD, trauma and complex trauma as well as performance-related trauma and anxiety (any performance filed, including musicians, actors, other performers and athletes) and medically unexplained symptoms, which also cause health anxiety. I like to explore opportunities for post-traumatic growth, focus on resilience and development and my practice also is spiritually informed.
